The Story of Eros: The God of Love | The Immortal Gazette

The Immortal Gazette studio was alive with the hum of enchantment, and the air felt a bit thicker than usual—almost like someone had accidentally spilled a potion on it. Alice sat cross-legged in her chair, twirling a dark red rose between her fingers, eyes glinting with mischief.

"Ah, my darlings," she purred, leaning forward like a cat on the prowl. "Today's tale is all about love—and not the gushy, sappy kind."

Loki, lounging casually, grinned. "Love? I thought we were all about trickery and chaos, Alice."

Alice smirked. "And who said love can't be chaotic? I'm talking about Eros, the god of love—the one who got way too good at stirring the pot."

Rumple snorted. "The one who made everyone fall in love with each other... whether they wanted to or not."

Alice waved a hand dismissively. "Don't act like you don't respect him. He’s the ultimate matchmaker—whether people are ready for it or not."

Loki tilted his head, raising a brow. "Isn’t Eros the one who had a little... complicated relationship with his own mother?"

Alice's eyes gleamed with dark amusement. "Oh, yes, let’s start there. You see, Eros was the son of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, and Ares, the god of war. Divine combination, right?"

Rumple rolled his eyes. "So basically, chaos in a little immortal package."

Alice laughed. "Oh, absolutely. But here's the kicker—Eros wasn’t always the little cherub we see in the mortal world with his cute bow and arrow. No, no, no. In the original tales, he was a bit wild. Dark-haired, brooding, and dangerous—definitely not the baby-faced, giggling god they make him out to be now."

Loki smiled knowingly. "Ah, the sexy bad boy of the Greek pantheon. Got it."

Alice gave him a pointed look. "You of all people should appreciate this. Eros didn’t just shoot arrows at people. Oh no, he had a very particular power. With a single arrow, he could make anyone fall head over heels in love... and the other arrow? It made them fall into complete obsession."

Rumple groaned. "That’s one way to make an already messy world even worse."

Alice’s grin widened. "Isn’t it just perfect? And let’s not forget his sidekick, Psyche—a mortal woman, beautiful beyond compare, who just happened to catch Eros’s eye... or rather, his arrow."

Loki raised an eyebrow. "So, let me guess—another tragic love story?"

Alice's smile turned wicked. "Oh, you know it. Eros fell in love with Psyche, but in true divine fashion, he was terrified of her discovering his true identity. So, he made her swear never to look upon his face."

Rumple chuckled darkly. "Classic god move. Tell her not to look, and of course, she’ll do it anyway."

Alice laughed. "Exactly! But that’s the thing—Psyche, being curious—and let’s face it, who wouldn’t be?—decided to sneak a peek at Eros while he slept."

Loki clapped his hands together. "Oh, this is where the fun begins."

Alice leaned in, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "And of course, when she saw his face, Eros woke up, furious, and fled—leaving Psyche to wander the world in search of him, enduring trials set by none other than his dear mother, Aphrodite."

Rumple grimaced. "Aphrodite’s trials were nothing to joke about. They were literally designed to break someone."

Alice sighed. "You know, for someone who claims to hate romance, you really seem to know a lot about it, Rumple."

Rumple glared, but Alice just laughed. "Anyway, after completing these trials—and nearly dying in the process—Psyche finally earned her place beside Eros. They were reunited, and of course, the gods were like, 'Alright, alright, we’ll let her live forever.' Because immortality always solves everything, right?"

Loki snorted. "Ah, love conquers all... except for common sense, apparently."

Alice smirked. "Exactly. But let’s not forget—Eros was just having fun. He wasn’t all about the love, darling. Oh no, he enjoyed watching mortals suffer for their own desires. In fact, he delighted in causing chaos for anyone who dared to cross him."

Rumple threw up his hands. "Like I said, classic god behavior."

Loki’s smirk turned wicked. "I’m starting to think Eros and I would’ve gotten along quite well."

Alice chuckled darkly. "You two would absolutely get along—though I suspect Eros might’ve enjoyed turning you into a puppet for a bit. After all, nothing says ‘true love’ like a string of emotional manipulation."

Rumple snorted. "I think Eros might have been a little too much for me. I prefer to work my own chaos, thank you very much."

Alice clapped her hands, causing the enchanted lanterns to flicker in delight. "And that, my loves, is the tragic yet deliciously chaotic story of Eros—who taught us all that love might be beautiful, but it is never without its... twists."

Loki smiled, leaning back in his chair. "Well, at least someone knows how to keep things interesting."

Alice shrugged nonchalantly. "What can I say? A little chaos never hurt anyone... except maybe those who can’t handle it."

And so, another tale of love, manipulation, and chaos was recorded in the Immortal Gazette—a reminder that even the gods aren’t above the wild, unpredictable nature of affection.
